UM Charles Regional Medical Center Organizes Canned Food Drive

La Plata, Maryland – For over 30 years, the employees and physicians of UM Charles Regional Medical Center have collected and decorated dozens of baskets of canned and boxed foods for donation during Thanksgiving week. Each department, individually or with other departments decorateand fills huge baskets with food, often including turkeys and gift certificates,for local individuals or organizations in need.

Employees also collected book bags and school supplies for local schoolchildren. The school supplies are donated to Charles County Children’s Aid Society.

On November 20, UM Charles Regional’s Medical Staff Committee, under the direction of Guillermo Sanchez, MD, held a special event for the employees and physicians to display their beautifully decorated baskets. This year’s baskets will be given to local families in need. Carol Jackson, Board Member from the Charles County Children’s Aid Society was presented with the school supplies and back packs. The La Plata High School Chamber Choir performed festive songs to kick off the holiday season at UM Charles Regional.
